SERVICES OFFERED

ACTIVITY LIST + RESUME BUILDING

Ideally starting freshmen and sophomore years

The activity list is a crucial component of showing a student's non-academic achievements and leadership inside and outside of school. Colleges want a well-rounded student on their campuses, and this is critical component of showing how well a student balances and takes initiative. Together we will develop ways to present student's strengths and highlight leadership in their extra-curricular activities, club involvement and employment.

  • Explore interests and leadership development opportunities

  • Extracurricular analysis

  • Strategically approach activity involvement

COURSE SELECTION + ADVISING

Ideally starting freshmen and sophomore years

Colleges review all four years of a student's high school academic career. They want to see how a student has challenged, evolved and executed within the classroom. The courses taken freshman year are as important as those taken senior spring since they all tell a story of a student's growth and achievement. Together we will examine the current and future course selections to develop and strengthen student application.

  • Transcript review

  • Course recommendation

  • Explore passions + align strengths and interests into challenging coursework

APPLICATION GUIDANCE + COACHING

Ideally beginning of junior year

Like shoes, colleges must be a great fit! Building and reviewing a college list is an essential part of the college application experience. While they research, students have so much to explore and learn about themselves and their schools of interest in this time. By creating a balanced list, students can become excited about the admission process and start to seek joy in the milestones.

  • Explore safety, match + reach schools to develop list

  • Exploration of interests and majors

  • Personalized step by step coaching through process

BRAINSTORM + ESSAY DEVELOPMENT

End of junior year

For many students, who are not strong at writing or intimidated by it, there is a roadblock for how to begin the essay writing process. College applications rely heavily on essays to understand student perspective and interest. In order to solidify a strong application, a student must be confident and clear about what a topic is asking as well as how they will highlight their achievements in their responses. We review the essay questions across applications and strategize approach to drafting and developing a response.

  • Student empowered through elevated voice

  • Review exemplar essay ideas

  • Develop topic and lay out presentation of ideas

ESSAY WRITING AND REVISION

Ideally summer after junior year

Student voice must ring loudly and clearly in an essay. The essay should be both well-written grammatically and well-written to give insight into a student's personality and goals.  An essay should very clearly give a snippet of a student's interest but also outline their potential within their future collegiate experience.  We will edit and develop personal statements to convey experience and elevate personality and promise.

  • Develop student voice

  • Ensure language is reflective of student experience

  • Provide guidance on how to connect with admissions counselor/application reader

COMMUNICATION + INTERVIEW SKILLS

Ongoing throughout all four years

The interview is a powerful, yet often overlooked, component of the college application and scholarship process. For many readers, there was something of intrigue within the application they want to probe into further, or they want to match the personality on paper to that in-person. Both virtually and in-person, students need to be able to present themselves as confident and prepared to highlight their strengths, weaknesses, aspirations and fears during the interview. Together we will bolster student presence with non-verbal and verbal communication that best portray and student's aptitude and potential.

  • Mock interview - practice,  preparation and follow-up

  • Sample question prep

  • Interview technique for in-person, phone and virtually

FINANCIAL AID + COLLEGE SELECTION

Senior year

Once acceptances roll in, there is so much to consider! Affordability, culture, majors and support are just a few components that I review with students. Selecting a school is an exciting process and laying the groundwork in the fall will ensure students and their families are ready for college selection day!
